Eminent educationist, the former Headmaster & Secretary of PSG Sarvajana Higher Secondary School Dr. S. S. Rajagopalan, passed away on February 3 at 11.45 pm at JV Hospital, Kodambakkam. Our School mourns the loss of this great human being. We express our profound grief and heartfelt condolences at the passing of a noble soul. He had played a constructive role in shaping progressive initiatives in the state’s school education system.

His body was handed over to Ramachandra Medical college for medical research. His selfless act will be remembered for years to come

• Alumnus of PSG Sarvajana High School. His father Mr.R.Srinivasa Iyengar worked as Headmaster (1926 – 1950).
• Started his career as a teacher at Andhiyur Government School at the age of 18.
• Moved to PSG Sarvajana High School and became the youngest Headmaster of the state (1966 – 1989) and also the first Secretary of the School.
• Played a pivotal role in implementing higher secondary education in Tamil Nadu.
• Introduced Co – education school in Coimbatore.
• Introduced the scheme “Employment with Education”.
• Introduced Vocational Education at School level and played major role for getting priority to the Vocational students to enter in to the Engineering Colleges.
• Introduced teacher training classes and received appreciation from NCERT as the best school.
• Key member of Muthukumaran Panel to set up Samacheer Kalvi.
• Served as a member of the technical committee of the All India Forum for ‘Right To Education.’
• A staunch advocate of mother tongue as the medium of instruction in Government schools.
• Recipient of the ‘Best Teacher Award’ at both state and National level
• Served as a secretary of District medical aid committee
• Served as District secretary and commissioner of Bharath scouts Guides.
• Implemented centre for continuing Education of SCERT and NCERT and became the director of CCE.
• Served as one of the state members of NEP (New Education Policy).
• Served as the President of Tamil Nadu high schools and higher secondary schools.
• Conducted various events like state level & National level seminars, Science Exhibition, Sports meet & Public examinations.
• Served as a District president of Indo-Soviet Cultural Society.
• Part and Parcel of various Educational conferences all around the world and published many research papers in education.
